Lost Colony Healthcare
Archaeologists near Manteo have made a discovery that may relate to the Lost Colony, the late 16th century settlement on what is now Roanoke Island. The entire colony disappeared without a trace between 1587 and 1590. Their fate is one of the great mysteries of our state, and even small clues about the colonists’ lives are treasure troves. The current discovery — two clay pottery fragments — points to their healthcare practices, of all things; the fragments are likely from jars that held medicines.
Millennials Are Risking Their Health, and Not Because They’re Reckless
Would you treat pneumonia with supplements? According to a recent study, many Millennials would. Those who don’t have health insurance (and it’s a lot of them — about 11%) use risky alternatives to traditional medicine when they can’t afford their healthcare. Or just go without it at all.
Employee Wellness Programs, They Are a’Changin’
Employee wellness programs are pretty popular among American companies. A new survey out by the Society for Human Resource Management found that 78% of surveyed businesses used them. That number is more than 20% higher than it was a few decades ago.
