This communication technique dates back hundreds of years in the rural South, where it was used to shout short messages between farms. Spivey’s Corner has kept the tradition alive since 1969 with its Hollerin’ Contest, but low attendance in recent years has put a damper on the fun, and they’ve suspended it this year.
