Good news for the health and human services sectors in NC: lawmakers exceeded their target $22.2 billion budget for our Department of Health and Human Services this year by about $116 million. One big winner? Medicaid, which reportedly clocked in under budget last year and is working with a surplus of funds.
A few other winners:
NC Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST), a tool dedicated to improving how HHS serves our population through attention to services like subsidized child care.
Able to Work USA, a Wilmington-based organization that helps people with disabilities find good jobs.
The Boys and Girls Club. (You know that one, right?)
